Pi Beta Phi’s 100 Year Literacy Vision
For 100 years, Pi Beta Phi has been a pioneer in service and philanthropy, particularly in the field of education and literacy. Pi Beta Phi announced at the 2011 convention the literacy vision and platform for the next 100 years: Pi Beta Phi leads the way to a more literate society. Pi Beta Phi will accomplish this vision by providing tools, which support literacy skill development and engaging initiatives aligning with the following principles:
Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic work will be rooted in friendship.
Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic work will be uniquely Pi Phi.
Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic work will make its impact locally.
Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic work will encourage reading.
Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic work will allow members to give of time, talents and treasures.

The new platform to help Pi Phi reach its literacy vision is called Read.Lead.Achieve.

Fraternity Day of Service
Pi Beta Phi celebrates Fraternity Day of Service on or around March 2, in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. This year, Kentucky Alpha visited Family Scholar House and gave the kids a night with Dr. Seuss. We made fun Cat in the Hat crafts, read the Cat in the Hat together, and hosted a literacy panel for the parents.

Champions are Readers (CAR)
During the spring semester, we spend six weeks at a local elementary school reading with students in small groups and doing reading comprehension activities.
The KY Alpha chapter of Pi Phi was honored to be a pilot chapter for CAR, which is one of our favorite ways of showing philanthropic service to others.
